Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is a Giclee?
Giclee (pronounced "zhee-clay")
Giclee is a French word and means the spraying of ink. This term is widely used today to refer to a unique printing technology. With the advent of giclee, the art of reproducing fine art has become even more precise than lithographs.
A giclee gives the impression of an original painting due to the unique printing process having the highest apparent resolution, as high as 1,800 dots per inch, the high-quality art paper or canvas, and color fidelity with long term achievability. Displaying a full color spectrum, giclee prints capture every nuance of an original and have gained wide acceptance from art collectors, artists, galleries and museums throughout the world. Giclee prints are known to be used by museums to display works of art normally kept in the museum's basement vaults.
A giclee print is simply the closest duplication of an original artwork that is humanly, mechanically, or technically possible. The giclee is an affordable option to buying the original artwork or a hand painted reproduction. A certificate of authenticity is issued by the artist verifying the number for each limited edition giclee print.
